Anne Schaeffer, MS, PCLC
Hi, I’m Anne!
I will meet you where you are and together, we will work to discover your unique path forward toward holistic wellness. I am committed to nurturing genuine human connections through relational-cultural and person-centered approaches to counseling. I also use a Bowenian family systems approach, encouraging lasting, positive change within each individual’s family system by building on existing strengths and their unique potential.
I hold a Master of Science in Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy from MSU and am excited to work with individuals age 16 and older, pre-marital and couples’ therapy. Additionally, I hold a certificate in Addictions Counseling from MSU to allow me to better serve individuals who have been affected by substance misuse either personally or from friends and family.
Before pursuing a degree in counseling, I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. I have over 25 years of experience in the healthcare field, which heavily informs my trauma- and neurobiologically informed approach. Having shifted my focus to counseling, my goal is to provide truly culturally sensitive care, ensuring a welcoming and understanding environment for every individual.
Using a relational-cultural approach to counseling individuals and couples allows me to integrate emotionally focused therapy that considers each individuals attachment styles and relational patterns. I also utilize John and Julie Gottman’s concepts of effective communication and conflict management to provide my clients with practical skills that will facilitate the greatest chance for growth within themselves and their relationships. Additionally, by using mindfulness and somatic techniques my clients are provided with a sense of grounding and increased resilience.
Your own counseling journey can bring up many issues that may not have been acknowledged or processed before which may be challenging and scary at times. Results vary from person to person and aren’t a guarantee that you will feel better right away. However, my aim is to provide you with skills and a safe space to take on the challenge of growth one step at a time. I believe that when clients experience a counseling relationship characterized by warmth, honesty, and unconditional acceptance, it creates a safe space where we can explore opportunities for growth and change.
I am licensed by the state of Montana as a Professional Counselor Licensure Candidate (PCLC) and am under the direct supervision of Emily Grills, LCPC, and Kathryn Bowen, LCPC, both licensed by the state of Montana as Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors.
Growing up in the Bitterroot Valley and now living in Bozeman has given me a deep appreciation for Montana's people and beautiful landscapes. My family and I make exploring our state a priority and we have enjoyed many adventures in our mountains, rivers and lakes. In addition to planning our next adventure, my other favorite pastimes include Nordic skiing, reading, biking and brewing kombucha!
