Meg Desmond, Grad-Student Therapist
Hi, I’m Meg!
I’m someone who finds a lot of joy in being outside whether it be skiing, hiking, swimming, or sometimes just laying on a sunny rock and letting the world slow down for a minute. I also love writing, crafting, and baking, especially when I’m making something to give to a friend or family member. There’s something about making things with your hands that resets everything.
Before I became a therapist, I spent years working in environmental conservation. That work taught me something I didn’t expect: no matter the mission, what people are really searching for is connection and healing. I watched my colleagues pour themselves into protecting something larger than themselves. I realized I wanted to do the same thing, just more directly, one person at a time. Counseling felt like the most honest answer to that.
What This Work Has Taught Me
I didn’t expect how fast an hour would go. It can feel so hard to carve out time for therapy — we’re all busy, spread thin, convinced we don’t have room for one more thing. But sitting across from a client, I blink and the time is up. That perspective shift has genuinely changed how I think about where I invest my time.
How I Work
I take a person-centered approach and tailor everything to you, your values, your goals, your communication style, and the way you actually think and process. I draw on cognitive reframing, narrative exploration, mindfulness-based exercises, and somatic and body-awareness interventions depending on what fits.
I’m interested in all of it including the specific moment you’re stuck in and the bigger picture of everything that brought you there. Whether we’re zooming in or zooming out, I want to understand what makes you you.
Who I Work Best With
I love working with people in transition. A new chapter in school, a career change, a shift in who you are in your relationships or your family. If you’re standing at a crossroads trying to figure out which way to go, that’s exactly where I want to meet you. I’m energized by helping people move toward their values and find solid ground when everything feels uncertain.
Outside the Office
Being outside is still how I take care of myself. You can usually find me skiing, hiking, or swimming, or honestly just laying on a sunny rock somewhere letting the world slow down. Nature taught me to look at the whole picture of a person, all the layers and relationships that make someone who they are. I bring that same wide-angle view into the room, and getting outside regularly is a big part of what keeps me grounded enough to do this work well.
If You’re Nervous About Starting
I know what it feels like to sit across from a stranger and try to put your vulnerabilities into words. I’ve been in that chair too. You are in control of your time and your process here. We go at your pace, and you never have to address something until you’re ready.
If any of this resonates, I’d love to connect. You’re in control of how we start, so reach out whenever you’re ready.
